The Dreams’ Time Capsule project has taken place during the White Night Festival in Riga, on September 7th and 8th 2013. The participatory event was produced by the kim? Contemporary Art Center, and curated by Zane Onckule.
More than 260 people have recorded their dreams (Sapne in Latvian), coming from 2 p.m. until 3 a.m. and the day after. Dream encounters were recorded in Latvian, Russian, German, Chinese, English, etc… We wish to thank all the volunteers engaged in the process based survey. Without their help during the days (and night), we could not inform the audience, reply to all questions, gather all data. We would like to thank all dreamers that patiently waited in the queue, and the supportive staff of Kim?, especially Zane and Laima.
We are really glad for this successful stage of the project, the archive has engrossed and it will carry with special care all these new testimonies.
Looking forward to having dreamers feedbacks to delivering phase!
Dreams’ Time Capsule project arrived in Stockholm, hosted by Arkitekturmuseet (20th and 21st September 2012), and after that, it was part of Fittja Open under the invitation of Botkyrka Konsthall (22nd and 23rd September 2012). Travelling in the own artist’s luggage, the audio-recording station had gently projected the public into an extraordinary spatial dimension, outside the immediate green surroundings, stepping into an intimate dimension: the perfect atmosphere for the visitors’ individual recording of one or more dreams they liked to donate to the sound archive.
Here, we want to say thanks to all the participants at the Dreams’ Time Capsule, in Stockholm and Fittja. With their support, we arrived to collect more than 300 dream testimonies.
Special thanks to Anna, Alida, Cosimo, Magnus Ericson, Marjetca Pjotrc and her students for the participation at the talk on September 23rd, 2012.
The presentation in Stockholm, 20–23 September 2012, and Fittja was curated by Elisa Tosoni.
A collaboration between Arkitekturmuseet and Botkyrka Konsthall, with support from Italienska Kulturinstitutet ”C.M. Lerici” (Stockholm) and the project DE.MO./MOVIN’UP 2012 (Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali DG PaBAAC – Direzione Generale per il Paesaggio, le Belle Arti, l’Architettura e l’Arte Contemporanee with the participation of Direzione Generale per lo Spettacolo dal Vivo and GAI – Associazione per il Circuito dei Giovani Artisti Italiani).
From 1st till 3rd July 2012, the Dreams’ Time Capsule project was hosted by The Townhouse Gallery in Cairo, curated Alexandra Stock and Ania Szremski. Eva Frapiccini was artist-in-residence, under the support of the residency exchange program Resò (promoted by Crt Foundation and Piedmont Region), 2012.
Each day, people were invited to enter the inflatable structure between 10 am and 8 pm, to record their oneiric testimony: either a whole night time dream or a particularly strong image that had remained in their minds.
In so doing, about 90 testimonies (in Egyptian, English and others languages) have been collected and included in the audio archive: voices that will be preserved and given back to the donors in 2021, after 10 years from the beginning of the project.
Thanks to Mina Nosky, Dina Sfakaki, Alexandra Stock, Ania Szremski and William Welsh and all the staff of Townhouse Gallery for their invaluable support throughout the Cairo leg of the project!
We would like to thank also the Resò program team and all the curators and organisers involved in the program.
